LESSON
IN MUSIC AND VOICE QUALITY, by Etienne Leroux.
Talent and original creativity don't
fade away and disappear amid aggressive campaigns of commercialized and pumped
products, said Maximillien de Lafayette in an article he wrote about Jazz
singers in the New York Monthly Herald, this month. The article came in the
form of a tribute to talented performers who have made their mark on the music
scene. Via a series of interviews with stars such as Carol Sloan, Hilary Kole,
Patti Wicks, Mercedes Hall and Marlene Verplanck, de Lafayette's message came
loud and clear: A great talent is not restrained by an era, defined by market
needs and an incomprehensible appetite for novelties.

“The Old Man and The Sea.” Using found objects and appropriated imagery,

contrived world. Determined to reorder the ordinary, Fichter layers modes of
representation to infuse meaning and value into the otherwise common and
ubiquitous.

7-LEGENDS

Revisiting
Edith Piaf, The Immortal, By Steve Huey. She is almost
universally regarded as France's greatest popular singer. Still revered as
an icon decades after her death, "the Sparrow" served as a touchstone for
virtually every chansonnier, male or female, who followed her. Her
greatest strength wasn't so much her technique, or the purity of her
voice, but the raw, passionate power of her singing. (Given her
extraordinarily petite size, audiences marveled all the more at the force
of her vocals.)

Wiener, a humanitarian and published author was written up in a most glowing fashion. The magazine called him a saint, an angel, man for all seasons and all the American nine yards. Wiener apparently is different from the rest of the group. Read. P. 92.

KENDRA
SHANK; THE BEST OF THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS. TWO THUMBS UP. LA CRÈME DE
LA CRÈME!
A daring one. Unlike other singers, Shank
metamorphoses with the tempo. Meaning, she is NOT enslaved by band
rhythmics and rigidly dictated norms. She transcends the moment. In a
sense she brilliantly creates the MOMENTUM for vocal virtuosity and
musical beauty. Difficult to elucidate this mysterious and uncommon
talent of hers. In other words, her voice is richer than the music, and
her personal interpretation adds an extra dimension to the true meaning
of the lyrics. Shank's voice breathes in a musical cadence unheard
before. She lives her longs and her songs in return comes to life in a
most truthful and intimately captivating way.

18-IT DOES NOT PAY TO BE RUDE
One
of the most vital basics in public relations, and social etiquette as
well, is to display impeccable manners. You don't have to be Emily Post,
but for God sake do not insult others. In show business and music
industry, a genuine and polite rapport with the audience could catapult
the career of an artist. The opposite is catastrophic. Especially, when
the rude artist is a musician who has to struggle in a competitive
world. This is the case of a guy by the name of Bruce Gaitsch.
